Green Gets England Chance
By Danny Wright
West Ham UnitedĀ stopper Robert Green has finally been given his chance to impress England manager Fabio Capello.
The self-styled ‘Number Six’ choice has been called into the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Kazakhstan next month.
The former Norwich man has previously voiced his frustration at being overlooked by the England set-up, first by Steve McClaren, and more recently Capello.
Green, 29, has now been called up alongside Paul Robinson and Scott Carson.
The announcement will also provide a significant boost for Robinson, who has endured a torrid couple of years on the international scene.
After a well-documented loss of form, Robinson was dropped and replaced by David James as first choice.
The Blackburn keeper has been in fine form this season however, helping keep Sam Allardyce’s side in the top flight.
Capello has seen enough to suggest the 29-year-old is worth another look.
Scott Carson also comes into the fold, despite being relegated with West Brom.
The trio occupy the three goalkeeper places after James and Ben Foster were ruled out with injuries.
