Everton have beaten off competition from Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of a seven-year-old. Harry Yates, who has kicked since he could crawl, will link up with the Toffees after being spotted playing for his junior side.

After a flurry of interest from a number of teams, including United and Liverpool, his parents chewed it over and decided the aspiring goalkeeper from Heaton Mersey, Stockport, will be given the best care by the Goodison Park outfit.

Harry, who plays for his Didsbury Road Primary School as well as junior side The Vipers, will today meet with manager David Moyes to sign on the dotted line.

Harry’s father Phil, himself a former goalie, reckons it was only a matter of time.

“He has no other real hobbies - it really is his number one passion,” he said.

“We even had to get him a soft ball because we can’t stop him kicking around inside, so bang go the ornaments and glassware.”

Harry also practices every day with the half-sized nets that have been put up in his back garden.

The young prodigy will practice on the same grass as the first team at their Finch Lane facility in Halewood, Cheshire - he’ll also get to meet the stars.

Dudek delighted at Madrid move

Former Liverpool FC goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has spoken of his pride after completing a move to Spanish champions Real Madrid CF on a free transfer.
Istanbul heroDudek, who was an integral member of the Liverpool side that won the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League final against AC Milan on penalties, had been a peripheral figure at Anfield since the arrival of Pepe Reina from Villarreal CF two years ago and was released at the end of season 2006/07. The 34-year-old was unveiled at the Santiago Bernabéu this afternoon after successfully passing a medical and agreeing terms on a two-year contract.
‘Very proud’Dudek, who joined Liverpool from Feyenoord for €8m in August 2001 and made 127 league appearances for the English Premier League club, will be understudy to Iker Casillas at the Bernabéu. “I was considering a return to Feyenoord, and Jacek Krzynówek was encouraging me to join him at [VfB] Wolfsburg,” added Dudek, who has won 58 caps for Poland. “However, when Real showed interest I was very proud and did not think long.” Madrid, who have won a record nine European Champion Clubs’ Cups, will enter the 2007/08 edition in the group stage after winning the Spanish title.

Shay Given has revealed he would be happy to spend the rest of his career at Newcastle.
The Republic of Ireland international is in his tenth year at St James’ Park after arriving from Blackburn.
Given has established himself as one of the best keepers in England during his time at the club with a number of consistent performances on Tyneside.
The 31-year-old still has four years to run on his current contract and he says he would be happy to extend it to keep him at St James’ Park.
“I have got four years left on my contract and I will definitely be here for them - and hopefully a few more beyond that,” Given told the club’s official website.
“But we will have to see how my body holds up before I start thinking about another 10.
“When I signed, I knew I was coming to a huge football club.
“It’s a special place to play football, what with the fans and the stadium, and hopefully we will be able to win something while I’m here because you can just imagine what the place would be like.”

Kahn mulls coaching in China

Bayern Munich goal keeper Oliver Kahn is to begin his new life as a coach in Asia from next June and China would be the top choice, according to FIFA’s official website.
“I am already 39 years old, and this year will be my last season,” the former Germany captain said during an interview with FIFA.
“I will be coaching in Asia, where they need professional training for goalkeepers. I have a few friends in China, South Korea and Japan, and they will be happy if I go there.”
Kahn played 86 games for Germany before quitting from national duty last year after the World Cup at his home soil, where he lost his place to Arsenal’s Jens Lehmann. He was awarded as player of the tournament at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea although Germany lost to Brazil in the final game.

Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray hopes to make a swift return

Murray is waiting to hear back from a specialist but is in positive mood the news will be good.
“I don’t want to get carried away but there has been a massive improvement in the last few days,” he said.
“These are exciting times and the lads - like me - can’t wait to come back in to training and get started next week,” he told the club website.
He added: “We have lost some great characters in Carl Cort, Michael Oakes and Jackie McNamara but new players will be coming in so expectation levels will rise.”

WIGAN Athletic have handed a belated wedding present to Carlo Nash.The former Stockport and Manchester City keeper has returned from honeymoon to finalise his move to Wigan on a two-year deal. And he is excited by the prospect of playing Premiership football.Nash spent a month on loan at Latics last season and liked what he saw. “I got a taste of Wigan, loved it and realised they are a great club,” he said.”I also saw how professional everything is from the management down and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.”This is a great move for me and I’m glad things have been sorted out.Healthy”There is a lot of competition among the keepers and it’s my aim to stake a claim to be first choice.
