Kinnear: Trapattoni Comments ‘Disrespectful’

Newcastle United interim manager Joe Kinnear has slammed Ireland coach Geovanni Trapattoni for recommending goalkeeper Shay Given to a host of Serie A clubs.

Trapattoni lavished praise on Given earlier in the week, saying he was “one of the best goalkeepers in the world.” He also admitted he held discussions with coaches from clubs in Italy about the Magpies stopper.

Kinnear is far from happy about Trapattoni’s remarks, as the comments may lead to transfer speculation about the availability of his prized stopper.

Given has already been linked with a move to Tottenham in January to replace blunder prone Heurelho Gomes.

“I think it’s a little bit disrespectful. Shay, I think, has got another three years here on his contract,” Kinnear told Sky Sports News.

“Why on earth Giovanni would want to bring out a statement like that I don’t know - maybe he was just getting on the good side of Shay.”
