Former Lazio goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani has come out in defence of his successor between the Lazio posts, Juan Pablo Carrizo (pictured), after the goalkeeper has been criticized for the media for some of his on-field performances.
Carrizo who wears the Puma King XL glove series arrived in Rome with a great reputation behind him from hsi time at River Plate and some of the Lazio fans expected more from the player, but Marchegiani insists that the Argentine is doing a fine job.

“I like Carrizo a lot,” he told Radio Incontro. “He has two fundamental qualities of a great goal-keeper, personality and a presence on the field.”
Marchegiani suggested that the reason he is criticized is because that the way he conducts hismelf on the field as a goalkeeper is not the same as is typically taught in Italy.
“He is technically sound, but comes from a different school of goalkeeping and we cannot ask him to change, but rather we should learn to appreciate his talents,” explained the former Italian international. “We are talking about a player who is just 24-years-old and comes from a completely different league than ours.”
Finally, Marchegiani spoke about who he believes are the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment.
“Today Gigi (Buffon) is the best goalkeeper in the world,” he claimed. “Behind him there are good goalkeepers, but they struggle to ensure continuity in their performances. (Iker) Casillas played such a great European Championship, but is not repeating that in La Liga.”
Carrizo is expected to be in net when Lazio host Siena on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Olimpico.
