Premiership side Sunderland have signed Ipswich Town goalkeeper Nick Colgan.
The Republic of Ireland international will now provide competition for incumbent Craig Gordon, Darren Ward and Martin Fulop.
Colgan has represented no fewer than 12 British clubs, including Barnsley, Hibernian and Chelsea, and has nine international caps to his name after making his debut for the Republic against Denmark in 2002.
The 34-year-old is relishing the prospect of Premier League football, telling the club’s official website: “It’s a huge challenge I’m really looking forward to,”
“He [Keane] told me he wants to carry a good squad of goalkeepers and it’s my job to bring my experience to others.”
The veteran stopper becomes Roy Keane’s second signing of the summer, after Tottenham midfielder Teemu Tainio joined the Black Cats from Tottenham yesterday.
